OK. So the bands aren’t that little. The stage is huge.

It was recently announced that Ted Leo and the Pharamicsts would be opening up for Pearl Jam on an upcoming tour. One of the stops is at none other than MSG. In February, Against Me! opened up for the Foo Fighters at MSG. Last October, The Hives opened up for Maroon 5 at MSG.

I have to say. I have no problems with any of those headlining bands. I think Eddie Vedder has a silly voice, but I think its awesome that Pearl Jam is still relevant 15 years after the fact. The Foo Fighters are undeniably the most solid rock band in the world, and Maroon 5 have always been a more honest version of The Killers….a pop band without the posturing of something more.

I also have to say that The Hives and Against Me! are two of the best live bands in the world right now. Ted Leo is ok, he’s 1 for 3 in the time’s I’ve seen him, but his records are amazing.

Its not surprising then, that the latter three bands were tapped to support the former. It is still surprising that any of those bands have or will play MSG. Make sense? They’re good enough to be there, I just can’t imagine it.

I propose a follow-up tour this spring. Ted Leo opens, The Hives support, and Against Me! headlines. I know, I know. But believe me, you don’t want to follow Against Me! You just don’t.
