Writers Block

There’s a lot to write on this week, and I just can’t get the words to flow from my brain to my fingertips. They’re stopping at my elbows somehwere. Total bummer.

If you didn’t know already, Shaq’s an asshole, George Carlin died, and Under the Radar haven’t been paying attention to music at all this century.

Watch the videos, click the links. Enjoy. Leave some comments. My brain is dead, apparently.

How Can I Look Punk Rock if I’m A Guy?

If you’ve ever used one of these free blogging service, you know that you can see what search terms people use to find your blog. Occasionally there will be something really ridiculous on there. Today, I found “how can i look punk rock if i’m a guy.” It somehow brought the guy to my TV Party article.

I don’t know what’s worse, wanting to “look punk” or looking on google to find the answer.

Anyways, if you’re the guy who looked this up, here’s my advice. Go to http://www.images.google.com and type in “Good Charlotte.” Seriously, they are punk rock. Good luck.

Fight Night

Vs.

I’ve always preferred Stereogum over Pitchfork Media. They’ve always seemed a bit more honest, and a bit more realistic. Stereogum’s always had a much more positive outlook…like “hey this is rad, check it out” while Pitchfork just seems like they’re there to shock people. Yea, I get it, you’re snarky, elitist assholes. Buddyhead was doing that like 10 years ago. Lester Bangs was doing it in the 70s. How could I possibly respect a site that doesn’t respect itself.

I always thought it would be funny if Pitchfork picked a really shitty band and as an experiment, gave them a great review and a ton of coverage. Just to see if their readers would devour up the bullshit and the hype would lead the next big thing. Then, without ever hearing the idea from me, they gave the first Clap Your Hands Say Yeah record a 9.0 rating. I was right. That band got huge.

Ironic, then, that this week both sites released sister-sites that focus on video. Pitchfork opened its on-demand Pitchfork TV and Stereogum launched Videogum, a blog focussing on, well, videos.

They couldn’t be more opposite. Pitchfork essentially developed their own platform of original web-TV, with exclusive interviews, video premiers, and live video. You know, kind of like Vice did with VBS.TV like two years ago. Videogum is essentially Best Week Ever 2.0. Its funny, it covers a lot of ground, and there isn’t too much structure aside from “this is a video we like, and we’re going to talk about it.

Anyways, right now I’m sticking with Videgogum. The Pitchfork platform is impressive, but until they’ve got music on there that I give a shit about, I can go without it.

Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back

If you were paying attention. And you should’ve been. Something happened with my old blog where you couldn’t access it for the past week. I then got a message today saying that starting April 10th, they were stripping everything down and then re-starting. I was luckily able to export my old posts to this new blog, but everything else is perpetually fucked. I’m going to work on it when I get a chance.

For now, enjoy this live video my Jackson Knife. Watch, listen, love.

Bring Back Buddyhead Gossip

Most of the kids don’t know this, but Buddyhead has been around. Long before Pitchfork was giving snarky, bullshit reviews to “abstract” indie rock bands and Perez Hilton was drawing dicks and coke residue over paparazzi pictures of Hollywood starlets, two skinny dorks in LA named Aaron and Travis were giving snarky reviews to rock and roll records and calling everybody out on their shit. Everybody.

I’m not going to say that they were the first music blog, but they were the first music blog to do what all the music blogs do now.

Oh yeah, they had this record label too, they put out records for bands like The Icarus Line, Your Enemies Friends, Wires on Fire, 400 Blows, and a couple of killer compilations.

Anyways, the point is, their legendary gossip section went away some time ago, and I think its time they bring it back. They say that they can’t afford it, but Aaron is the guitarist in this band called Nine Inch Nails. I know they gave their record away for free, but he can afford it.

If you’re into it, leave a comment letting them know. Once I’ve built up a number of comments…I’ll be realistic here…20? I’ll let them know about it too.

I’m serious. Leave some comments.
